I bought myself a saw of a suitable design for logs at the Church Fair a fortnight ago – but so far haven’t got around to sharpening it (which I hope I can do with the aid of my Readers Digest Do-it-yourself book – I knew how about 50 years ago!) It was the only thing in the room that I could find to buy apart from a few buns and biscuits. But others seemed more easily pleased as they made $6000!

She also mentioned the season of fetes and planted pottiness, or whatever. She seemed to have dozens of them, and objected particularly to the give and take of tombola – i.e. first giving the prizes and then taking tickets not to win them back.
